I didn't know anyone had actually built one. The Guy who designed it had just did the CG video. Cool.

RE: 2009 Victorys

"I understand what you are saying! Its true H.D. is behind on the technology, But doesn't nostalgia and the fact its built in the USA say something anymore!"
Nostalgia - A longing to experience again some real or imagined former pleasure. A whistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time. Homesickness causing severe melancholia. From Webster's Dictionary.
That's great that it's built here in America, but so is the Goldwing, and Toyotas. If that is all Harley has going for it, then why not buy them for the good resale value.
So, no it doesn't count for much. that said, I love the look of the bikes, and I love my Harley.
I want a new experience, I want to go forward, I want my own experience.

RE: 2009 Victorys

I have a friend who rides a Victory. He loves it. I like it too. It looks cool, sounds cool, and he spent a lot less than me. As for imitators, everyone at sometime or another follows the trend. From what I can tell the Japanese bikes imitated Harley's look, and only their look. They took harley tech and improved on it. A friend who has been riding the same Lowrider for over 15 years said years ago that he wished Harley would offset the cylinders for better cooling. Greenman is right, and I don't think Harley has had an original idea since 1903. If they have, they have kept it a secret.
I have a challenge for everyone, Name one technical innovation to the motorcycling world Harley has introduced in the last 50 years, other than the Softail.

RE: 2009 Victorys

Name one bike maker whose bikes are so different you can tell, with an untrained eye, the different models apart. I can see the different Harley from a mile away. That is because I have been around them so much. i have that trained eye. What is the difference between Harleys and others that Harleys all look alike but Hondas, Suzukis, Yamahas, ect don't?

Sons of Anarchy

A new TV show. Based on a former Bandito Ed Winterhalder, and his book. This could either be real good, or real lame. Since the trailer shows the main character, Jax (based on Winterhalder), riding without any eye protection I am going to say I think it may tend to lean towards the lame side. I will reserve judgement until after I watch a couple of episodes. Starts Sept. 3.

RE: 2009 Victorys

I'm not sure if he is saying that other bikes are starting to look like Victorys, or that Victory is starting to look like it's own bike without looking like a Harley. And I don't know what Partzco is saying about paying too much and looking like the rest. In my experience, you will pay a lot more for the real thing (Harley) than the look-a-like bikes. Victorys aren't that expensive. Yet! And the fact is that you would probably get more for your money with a Victory versus a Harley.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Right on Red. By the way I think you have the only Real Red bike in existance. They stopped making that color before they stopped making the bike.
Hey Lion, you have probably already done this, but I would be remiss if I didn't at least say it. If I remember correctly, one of the two toggle switches on the nacell operates the plug. Did you try them to see it it worked?
In short. Did you turn the switch on?

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Red I can't remember how exactly I did the throttle/idle cables, I used a needle nose, very long. But, I did do them a few times because I had to switch out the cables due to the fact that you can measure all you want, and still not have the correct length. I still don't, but it's better than changing cables. Changing handlebars on the RKC is a big fat pain. A shop was going to charge me $700. I see why. To their credit, the mech told me if I needed any help to call him and he would talk me through it. If my friends Dave the mech, Jim, and Keith didn't help me I would still eb without a bike or $700 poorer. Jim was the one who was the hands on help, the others were tech support. Good luck, and I will help as much as I can.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Hey Red, did you get a new harness? I was going to mention it, they have a wiring harness that you can get in varying lengths. It just plugs into the connector plugs at the frame, and it gives you new buttons for the controls. No soldering.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

No drain tranny fluid. About 7 total, over a few days. Yes I am still running them. The only advantage to making my own brake lines was to be able to change bars agin without redoing the entire brake line. Mine disconnect at the splitter to the calipers. The cost is nearly identical to the Harley set up. I mean maybe less than a dollar difference.

RE: oil and filters

I have 6k + on Amsoil in all three - Trans, primary, and engine. All 20/50. I like it. But to answer your question, you can use whatever oil you want. Don't use anything with friction reducers in the primary.
